Workshop Outline:

Format:
The day will consist of three main elements:
• tips for writing and editing web content
• skill-building exercises, designed to reinforce key points
• review sessions in which attendees are shown how the lessons you have learned during the training can be applied to your web writing.

Course content:
The content for the day will largely be determined by what Bev learns from his pre-course discussions and will reflect what he feels are the overall needs of the group.

However, the training will almost certainly include guidance on how to:
• capture and hold a web reader’s attention
• communicate key messages effectively online
• create content that informs, persuades and sells
• breathe life into less than exciting topics
• write strong headlines and intros
• write appropriate hyperlinks
• adopt the clear, concise style that the medium demands.

He will also advise on:
• the process writers must go through to create effective web pages
• how to structure online content
• boosting readability
• avoiding common web writing mistakes
• optimising web pages for the search engines.

Before the training:
Our tutor, Bev, will speak to all attendees beforehand to ask you which topics you most want him to address. He will also invite you to send him an example of your online writing or direct him towards a page on your website which he will review during the course.

Innovate London would like to congratulate Uwe Dreissigacker and Invoiceberry on their success in the Young Master Awards.

On March 8th, in Google’s London headquarters, the Young Master Awards, which were planned by Entrepreneur Country and Google UK, took place. There were more than 2000 nominations across the six categories involved in the event. Uwe Dreissigacker and his company, Invoiceberry were able to win the Best Business Pitch Presentation Award. Candidates for the award had to present their business pitch to BBC Online Dragon Julie Meyer (pictured here giving Uwe his award) in order to demonstrate their speaking ability and overall presentational skills. Out of the five candidates, Uwe was able to especially impress the judges with the sheer simplicity of Invoiceberry.

Upon receiving the award, Uwe Dreissigacker said: “It is fantastic that Entrepreneur Country encourages so many people to start their businesses and thus help the economy to get out of the recession. At the end of the day the country can only work with small businesses creating employment, innovation and wealth. I am very happy that Invoiceberry won the award as there is a blatant need for our online invoicing software in today’s small businesses with cash flow management being the most critical success factor.” The future seems bright for the young entrepreneur and his business moving forward.

Learn more about Invoiceberry here: http://www.invoiceberry.com

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Start-up or established small Business owners/managers who want to drive their business forward.

PROGRAM

How to use professional looking emails, in bulk, to market effectively to prospective customers and/or keep your existing customers informed (e.g. newsletters). Lucidica will explain how their monthly newsletter more than pays for the investment of time each month, by generating increased sales and loyalty from their customer-base. Bring along your laptop along if you would like to participate in the practical session at the end (set up your own mailing lists and send a test newsletter to yourself in the session!).

There will be plenty of time at the end of the session for you to raise specific questions around this topic, which are relevant to your business. So be sure to think and prepare a few questions in advance.

What you will learn:

*What you can use email marketing for, not just cold spamming of prospects
*The industry average read rate (the % of emails sent that are opened by the recipients)
*How to increase the number of emails that get through (i.e. techniques to reduce being blocked by spam filters etc)
*The best (and almost free) online email marketing tool we’ve found and, at a high-level, how to use it
*Things to avoid doing, so you keep unsubscriptions to a minimum and aren’t blocked or blacklisted by email servers
*How much time you should invest in preparing, sending and analysing a monthly client newsletter
*The value of sending regular email marketing, especially to your existing client-base

Thomas Jeffs is the facilitator for this event.

PROGRAM

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is all about refining your website, its content and links in to your website so the search engines, like Google, rank your website highly. In this seminar hear how to improve your website so search engines, like Google, lists or ranks it better/higher. Hear how the bet the Lucidica Chief Executive Officer (CEO) had with the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) in early 2009 went – could he get Lucidica from page 72 to page 1 of Google in less than 3 months for the primary search phrase, “IT support London”? Lucidica pass on all the lessons they learnt in this bet and how they dramatically climbed the Google rankings by doing this themselves. There are many simple things any business can implement to get them – or at least much closer – to the Holy Grail of search, page 1.
